Important note
Always initiate pairing from the iOS device.
Do not try to initiate paring from your Mac!
Pairing is needed only for the first connection to a new device.
Later connections may be made from Type2Phone.
Initial Pairing Instructions
The first time you want use Type2Phone with a given device, you need to go through the pairing process.
Here's how that works on the iPhone:
- Use System Preferences to enable Bluetooth on your Mac
- Set Bluetooth on your Mac to be discoverable
- On your iPhone / iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth
- Enable Bluetooth on your iPhone
- Tap the name of the Mac to start the pairing procedure
Now you may proceed to using iPhone applications needing text input.
Text you type on your Mac will appear on your iPhone.
For future uses you may initiate the connection from the "Click here to connect" button in Type2Phone.
Additional Instructions for Apple TV
- Initiate pairing from Apple TV
- When asked for confirmation, click YES on your Mac
- Click the Select / Enter button on your Apple TV remote
General Troubleshooting
When attempting to pair, your iOS device may not list your Mac or indicate that it is incompatible. The workaround is as follows:
- If the Mac is listed with a blue arrow, tap that arrow and select "Forget this device".
- Disable Bluetooth on the Mac
- Reenable Bluetooth on the Mac
- Set Bluetooth on the Mac to be discoverable
- Launch Type2Phone
- Now restart your iPhone / iPad
- On your iPhone / iPad, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth
- Enable Bluetooth on your iPhone
- Tap the name of the Mac to start the pairing procedure
If this convoluted procedure is needed, it is needed only once during initial pairing. Future connections are initiated from the Type2Phone software.
I Get the Wrong Letters
The keyboard layout configured in Type2Phone must match the on that is active on your iOS device.
- Click settings button in the toolbar of the Type2Phone window
- Make sure the selected keyboard layout matches your active keyboard layout on the iOS device
I Still Get the Wrong Letters
The iPhone probably is in Emoji mode.
- In Type2Phone select Special > Consumer Keys > Toggle Keyboard from the menu
- The software keyboard now shows on your iOS device
- Tap the "globe" button until the correct keyboard layout is selected
How can I Copy-Paste from the Mac to the iOS Device?
- Copy text as you usually would
- Return to Type2Phone, hit cmd-shift-v
